An angel falls
Look up and stand aghast, people of the universe. Hark, the sound of trumpets and running feet. Listen to the sounds of horses and swords clashing. Listen and hear; the groans of the dying and the dead. Look up and see; thunder and lightning strike at each other and darkness is quickly running in, to fill the space abandoned by light. Alas, a war is being fought. The stars have fled the sky, and the clouds have folded within themselves. Listen to the sounds of war, of gods fighting against each other, of angels running their spears through each other’s ribs. Cower in terror, fellow men for today, an angel falls. Someone sound the alarm, and tell the living and the dead that today another angel falls, shrouded in misery and shame. The end has come for another star that once shone. Let the moon turn red and the sun dark, for an angel will be fallen, desecrated and abandoned. We shall cry for him when he hits the ground, the beloved is no more loved. Lucifer, beloved of God, he is not any more. They have ripped him of his glowing crown and of his lovely wings. They have taken from him, his lyre and his strings. They have snatched from him his flutes and his cymbal. Who, tell me mortals, shall rise and take his place? Who shall wrest from his head the crown that bore his name? Oh an angel has fallen, gone down under with his music. Never again shall we know summer, and never shall we see flowers unfurling in spring, for a beautiful angel has been cast into the murky waters. Oh mortals, we will die in our shells. We shall die sad and miserable, and there will be none to sing us to our graves. We shall be wiped from the face of earth, and there will be none to console us. An angel has fallen, the beloved angel of God is no more, for he has met his end in a terrible way, beaten and bruised, butchered and bludgeoned. The beloved has lost favour in his father’s eyes, and has been cursed into the deep, to weep and to gnash teeth, to crave and clamour, to need but never to have, to want but never to get. Oh Lucifer, the beloved of God, thou hast fallen, shrouded in shame and misery, torn from the love of the father and covered in nothing but the cold you never knew before. They have cast the keys of the abyss, into seas too deep to swim in, and darkness too deep for light to penetrate. It is done, another angel falls.
